Christmas Card Project Challenge - 50 000 Cards for 2007 >> Click here for more info

Christmas Card Project - 2007
Our vision – to provide each inmate with a Christmas card and envelope during the latter half of November each year.
The Purpose - to enable inmates to communicate with loved one, members of their family, or a friend over the Christian festive season.
Our hope – To encourage reconciliation between the inmate and his/her family, friends, or someone they may have offended or hurt by their crime. It is an opportunity to re-establish family ties with news about their hopes for a future and how they may be working positively towards making it happen..
Our Aim - To supply women in prison, children in prison, inmates in prison hospitals, children in awaiting trial facilities, juveniles, and then adult male prisoners with a Christmas card.
How can I make this happen? You can supply us with a Christmas Card, an envelope and a stamp. Alternatively, you can make a donation into the ‘Christmas Card Project fund’
By taking part in this annual Christmas Card project you may do something positive towards breaking the back of crime in this country. You will prove that “Christians make miracles happen”.

THANK YOU ST MUNGO’S
For the faithful act of love you perform each year. The cards and envelopes that we receive are beautifully made and we can confidently send them on to the Correctional Centres.

Recently at a Conference we held the Head of the youth secure centre at Polokwane told us that the cards which were given to the children had been stuck to the wall by their beds. In January when the staff wanted to remove them they found that the children were heartbroken. These cards had meant so much to them that it was decided that a Birthday Card would be provided for them on their birthday.

This year we need about 5 000 cards for young children alone. So please don’t disappoint them.

Please contact us when cards are ready so we can direct them to the closest centre where they are needed.

Donations towards stamps can be made to –

URGENT COMMUNITY BASED NEED - Disneyland Pre-School, Diepsloot > Click here to see Pics

Diepsloot, has developed from a squatter camp into an informal settlement and now the addition of RDP houses.

Disneyland is a home based Pre-School situated in one of these RDP houses next to the existing squatter camp. It services some of the very basic needs of the tiny tots of the very poor people here. The Pre-School is run by a very able and committed pre-school teacher named Esther Phiri. Together with Josephine and, now an additional young woman they look after 30 little children aged 1 - 6 each day. This, they do despite the extremely cramped conditions in a small tin ‘shack’ next to her house. Behind her fence is the bulging shanty town. Disneyland has no toilet, washing and cooking facilities for these children. There is a very urgent need to build a room and add toilets for Disneyland. At present the roof is leaking badly, water is seeping through the floor, and it is too hot in summer and bitterly cold in winter to teach the children in this corrugated iron structure.

However, these children are some of the lucky ones because of the relatively safe environment with caring and committed people like Esther and Josephine. Because of the high unemployment of the area, many of the parents are unable to pay the basic school fees needed to run the school.

Pictures of the Graduation of some of the children who attended Disneyland Pre-School during 2005 are posted on the website. An amazing and unbelievable achievement for these children, lovingly taught and cared for by Esther and Josephine under difficult conditions. All this has given them a chance in life despite the conditions they are daily exposed to.

URGENTLY NEEDED - A basic permanent structure the size of a single garage with a roof and a good floor the size of a single garage, together with toilets, washing and cooking facilities for the needs of this home based pre-school.

Use Ref DPS if supporting this project – thank you
